Inno Design Tech Expo 2011
1 - 3 December 2011
Hong Kong, P. R. China
Message of greeting
by Dr. Philipp Rösler,
Federal Minister of Economics and Technology
for the Business of Design Week (BoDW) and the 2011 Inno Design Tec Expo (IDT Expo) in Hong Kong
Ladies and gentlemen,
It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the Hong Kong Trade Fair as visitors of the important brand and design conference Business of Design Week (BoDW) and the leading Asian trade fair for design Inno Design Tech Expo (IDT Expo).
The BoDW and the IDT Expo are taking place this year for the ninth time. Both events are recording growing numbers of exhibitors and visitors year after year. Germany is the partner country of these two significant design fora this year. In my capacity as Federal Economics Minister, I am responsible for the promotion of business and technology, and so it is a special honour to serve as patron of the German guest of honour exhibitions.
In the BoDW conference programme and at the IDT Expo, Germany is represented by internationally renowned designers who will showcase the many different areas, strengths and opportunities offered by our varied, creative and high-performance design industry.
Whenever the subject of German design is discussed, people always mention the word "Bauhaus". This is especially the case when people from other countries talk about German design. For quite some time, however, the specialists in the field have been aware of a considerable number of young German designers who have made a name for themselves. Their products are idiosyncratic in a positive sense and are on show in the most important museums of the world. On many occasions they have received international recognition and design awards.
Design is an important factor in Germany's economy and a strong engine for growth: the number of jobs and business start-ups in the creative industries has been rising steadily for years. After all, commercial success in global markets hinges to a large extent on pioneering designs.
I wish all visitors to the BoDW and the IDT Expo interesting contacts, fruitful discussions and inspiring new insights into the creative potential of the German design industry.
